My adventure: Triest-Rome by bicycle

You will learn that numbers to me have little importance when I will tell you that I can’t remember when the most fabulous, amazing breathtaking and never-to-be-forgotten experience I had in my life happened. Was it July or August, 2014 or 2015? …am confused and anyway it doesn’t matter. I can still recall the facts.

So I was planning an after graduation trip. The trip had to follow my rules. I was the boss. Conventional fixed-date holiday, flight, hotel and so on? No thanks even if it was somebody’s gift. I didn’t want that. I already had too much of conventional life. What I needed was the feeling of freedom. And freedom is for me on the road, under the sky, in the world, in movement. I opted for the bicycle. Feeling the sun, rain, wind, cold on your skin, feeling pain in your body, feeling lost, feeling far or near to your destination, feeling hungry and thirsty, feeling the breeze of wind under the shade, feeling the silence around you, the water of the river massaging your body, the crickets singing, the stars shining timelessly. Feeling the heat rising from the soil and the heat emanated by the sun, feeling the moist of the evening and the dimensionality of the landscape. Feeling feeling feeling. It’s all about feeling and sensing. No mind needed in nature. The mind stays behind in the city. That’s its home. The city is where you have to be focused in any action you do, using your mind for millions of operations which are basically useless. The city is indeed complicated, and in return it gives you crap.

Again my trip started in Trieste. It started with too many obstacles. But I am used to have them on my way so I carried on my plan with resolution.

Obstacle 1. Hottest summer in the past xx years, daily alarming news advising not to go out in the hottest hours of the day. People around me worried and trying to persuade me not to be foolish and quit.

Obstacle 2. Original plan was to travel me and my daughter together, again people scaring her and persuading her not to go with me. I now agree with them and eventually I travelled alone but I didn’t give up and still believe she needs to experience some adventures with me. It’s my duty and mission as mother. It’s going to happen, it’s on the list of things to do.

Obstacle 3. I got the period. I had already delayed the departure date several times because of job kind of limitations (financial and time related obstacles) and I was not willing at all to delay again. I decided to rest one day and started my cycling tour in feminine style, with period! Women are outraged when they hear this but actually they don’t know that a good way to remove period pains is actually moving and doing physical activity. When I was lazy and lethargic I used to have terrible pain and I would spend time in bed waiting for the pain to end. Absolutely wrong. Please ladies move your bump!

I swept aside all the muttering and grumbling around me and left for the world. I would like to explain with words the happiness and freshness I felt in that moment. The whole world was in front of me, time was just a flowing river, not a scheduled plan. And I cycled and cycled and whistled and sang la la la and listened to music la la la and smiling to people. Happiness la la la... and a lot of sweat!

It’s night time. I thought I would have completed the story in one single post but it seems it won’t work… hmmm tomorrow I will go to the doctor’s appointment. My future is in his hands. If I will need to have surgery then three months of no income attend me. This is outrageous!
